It's not a v12, it's an oil leak that happens to have 12 cylinders in it.
I have one sitting on a stand right now for a friend. You cannot make it stop leaking oil. I put in all new seals using the service manual procedure, new gaskets everywhere. I decked the heads, and for crying out loud had my machine shop check and level the oil pan mating surface on the block. It just wont stay oil tight once it goes in the car! Granted, it's out now for a different reason (car is getting full paint job, 100% stripped to metal inside and out) but i'm gonna try again :I
The 'updated' laminated gasket set you can buy from Jaguar helepd a LOT though.

Not a bad idea, I've been really thinking of an LS swap into a 928 lately.

I was about to say something to the effect of 'if you're gonna do that, do it to an XJ6, leave the 12 for a resto'. But having looked at the car, it's not one that I'd get on my 'Jaguar originality' horse for. At 176k miles the motor would be on it's last legs, but that's in kilometers, so you're actually looking at 109k or so. If it was well maintained, it would still have life in it, but any Jag I can't hear run would worry me a lot. Hearing it run would worry me less, but not by as much as other cars, haha.
I've been fantasizing about a XJ-S project...kind of a street/track rat rod, still with Jaguar V12 power, but with a T56. It would nicely compliment my '84 XJ12, which is spectacular but in a comfortable, quiet kind of way.

Oh, not at all. I wouldn't want to cut apart a mint XJ-12. That's why I think this one would be a prime candidate. Is it really in kilometers? Never knew that. Yeah, agreed there. I guess if someone purchased it for a drivetrain swap, though, I guess it doesn't matter if it runs lol.
Hot damn, that would be sweet. There is actually an XJ-S sitting in a yard near me that would be a cool candidate for that. I love the looks of those things, and its a shame that there aren't more around anymore. Yeah, that would be an awesome compliment! You would have the full 80's V-12 Jag collection then!

Yeah, check out the dashboard. 260 KPH speedo. Just about all the SIII XJ12s you see in the states are VDPs out of Canada, so you'll always see it metric unless somebody swapped it. Mine is a Sovereign, imported from Germany, so its all standard...160mph speedo and 60k miles on it. I don't know how many Sovereigns there are in the US, but I suspect it isn't many.
V12 Jags are funny, there are ones that are super nice and there are ones that are basically garbage, and there's like no in-between. There was one on Top Gear a while back, I guess this shop gets old XJ-Ss and goes through them. Nothing wild, but they upgrade the suspension and steering so the car drives the way it should have from the factory, like a big, planted sport tourer. They're a bit floatier than they ought to be right from Coventry, plus the years haven't done them any favors.
When I get around to winning the lottery, that XJ-S project will be my absolute first order of business.
